The show that was once called Cribs, hosted on MTV featuring a host of mansions owned by celebrities is now a craze on YouTube. I for one can’t help but be sucked into watching them for hours on end. Usually, the house tours feature some gorgeous decor pieces, luxurious carpets and lush marble kitchens. Not mention the huge walk-in wardrobes and sometimes even a cinema, gym and swimming pool. It sounds like what dreams are made of.
Once I’ve finished watching a bunch of them, I can’t help but feel a little jealous (ok- very jealous) of these amazing houses. Leaving me wanting to makeover my own home every time, which of course isn’t possible for the majority of us. After taking a look at a number of pins of makeovers on a budget, I knew I had to write about some ideas on how to give your home a makeover for less.
After watching the new Jeffree Star house tour and stumbling across a ton of other house tours, like Kyle Jenner and JoJo Siwa, I was motivated to take on the challenge of giving my home a makeover for less. Although the houses in the videos online are beyond amazing, most of us just want our homes to feel clean, cosy and a place we can enjoy being.
So here are 4 tips for giving your home a makeover on a budget.
Using sticky back plastic
I am a massive fan of sticky back plastic and can’t enough of the stuff. After discovering it a few years ago when looking for a background for blog photos, I’ve been buying it for a number of other things ever since. You can use it on tables, cupboards, worktops and more. The sticky back plastic comes in a number of different patterns, including a rose gold glitter, marble and plenty of types of wood.
You can buy sticky back plastic online from Amazon and instore in B&M and Wilko.
New carpet
Although carpets aren’t usually the first thing you look at when you go into a room, adding new ones and replacing the old can have a huge impact on a room. Picking a carpet which is bright and comfortable to walk on is always a great way to make a room look complete. Especially when you can get carpet on a budget from places like Flooring Superstore. With carpet ranges under £7 per square meter, you’re bound to find a style which looks great and costs a lot less than you’d think.
Create a feature wall
The final idea for giving your house a budget makeover is by creating a feature wall. Whether you decide to spruce up the paint in all of the rooms in your house or just one, creating a bright coloured featured wall is a great way to boost the mood of a room and also allows you to get creative.
Whether you’re looking at hanging pictures on the feature wall or putting a wall decal on your wall, like these lovely ones from I Want One Of Those, the choices are endless.
Add new handles
The final idea for giving your house a budget makeover is changing your old looking door and cupboard handles. In exchange for new modern ones will add that sparkle to any room. Whether you’re looking at getting coloured ones to match your new sticky back cabinets or to add on the draws in your bedroom you can be creative with your choices and give your piece of furniture a new unique feel.
