It’s safe to say; it’s freezing outside with 2021, offering a large helping of snow for most of the country, mostly where I am based in the West Midlands. With most of us indoors at home all of the time, it can be hard to keep warm without the heating on.
With Regatta’s help and their ‘The Nation’s Frostiest Debate‘ survey that 800 people were a part of, I’ve found out some great tips and tricks for keeping warm during the colder months without racking up a huge heating bill.
As part of their Frosty Debate, they asked a range of questions to participants, including the nation’s favourite ways to say it’s cold. Some of which I haven’t even heard of until now. And not so surprisingly the ways my friends and I refer to the cold are not on the list. Some of my favourites on the list are ‘it’s baltic’, ‘it’s arctic’ and a new one to add to my list is ‘it’s taters’, which is used most commonly in London.
Despite tea being a ‘British’ thing, more of us prefer coffee. Myself included, there is just something about tea that I just don’t enjoy as much as I do when enjoying a hot cup of coffee. The frosty survey also shares the weird and wonderful words that people use for their ‘cuppa’, which is the most popular being a cuppa for a cup of tea. I found it super interesting to see that the Welsh slang for an old fashioned cup of tea is ‘paned.’
The frosty survey’s final part revealed how us Brits are frugal and are all about saving money, with layering up being one of the top ways to keep warm. Whenever I think of layering up, I can’t help but think of Joey from friends when he puts all of Chandlers’ clothes on (if you know, you know).
If you’re someone who works from home or are spending lots of time indoors, these tips may help you with keeping warm this winter for less and be sure to check out #AFrostyDebate.

Hot drinks galore
Coffee and hot chocolate get in my life, whether it’s from a coffee shop (takeaway of course) or it’s one made at home, I can’t get enough. There is just something which provides a super warming feeling throughout your body with a hot drink. Not only does it warm your hands, but it also leaves you feeling toasty.
The ultimate jumper selection
A little while back I wrote a post all about the best comfy jumpers for the ultimate work from home staples, and I’ve since grown my collection, there is nothing better than chucking on an oversized jumper with some leggings or PJs. After all, getting dressed to the nines is so last decade.
Blankets or throws
If you’re like me, your house is filled with a variety of blankets and throws. They’re a great way to get snug on the sofa, on a chair or just about anywhere else in your house. Will even wears them as a cape style when he’s cold. Plus it’s always an excuse to buy more homeware and who doesn’t love to give their house a little makeover here and there?
