Have you been considering giving your interiors quick spruce up, perhaps before selling your home? Have you been considering giving your interiors a quick spruce up? Don’t forget about ironmongery. You might know it as hardware or you might simply call each product by its name (door handles, door locks, hinges… you name it).
Ironmongery is an essential part of any property, not only is it functional, allowing you to operate doors, windows and other parts of your home, but it can also be extremely stylish. Gone are the days when ironmongery was simply functional. Nowadays, ironmongery can play a big role in uplifting the look of your interiors, so it’s vital to give it some attention.
This goes for any property – commercial or residential! “The individual components of a hotel are cherry picked to strike the perfect balance between aesthetic and functionality. To achieve this, architectural ironmongery is crucial.” Comments Paul Smith in this Hotel Designs article.
I often browse Olbra Hardware for new home hardware to add to my wishlist. You might do this with your favourite clothes website or website for beauty products, I do it for home ironmongery. It’s the jewellery of a home and one of my favourite parts of interior design… may be a bit strange to some but it’s what I like. So, it is what it is.
Olbra Hardware is a British ironmongery supplier that has many years of experience in the door hardware industry. I prefer to buy from smaller, local businesses than from large conglomerates, so Olbra quickly became one of my favourite hardware websites.
But why do I like ironmongery this much? You might be asking. Glad you asked. Surprisingly, I have always found ironmongery quite fascinating. I remember being a young little me and thinking that door knockers were some of the best parts of front doors and would be fascinated by all different types of knockers that could be found around my neighbourhood, from unique lion’s head door knockers to simple ring door knockers.
First impressions count.
“The first thing you touch in a building is most likely to be the door handle – and first impressions count.” states Kate Sleep on Constructions News, and I couldn’t agree more. When you visit a property, the first thing you see is the entrance, including front door, door handle, door knocker or any other front door hardware. If this hardware is grimy, old and worn, you will instantly notice. Make people feel welcome and comfortable from the get-go by giving your front door hardware some attention.
Finishing touch to interior design.
I think that ironmongery is the perfect finishing touch when renovating and/or uplifting the look of any interior. As My Three and Me says, “Door handles and other hardware should be given enough attention as even though these are small details in the grand scheme of things, they will have a large impact on the overall look of a space.”
Essential for function.
I could go on and on about the beauty of door furniture and other ironmongery but it is also important to mention ironmongery’s first role: function. Without hinges, you wouldn’t be able to operate doors. Without locks, you wouldn’t have privacy and security. Without door stops, doors would swing into walls and damage them. Hardware is vital to the function of any space.
