A wedding costs a pretty penny, even for a wedding guest. With things such as gifts, attire and accommodation to think of, attending a wedding can be costly. However, with some money-savvy tips heading your way, I’ve rounded up the best ways to save money as a wedding guest, to allow you to have the best time whilst sticking to your budget.
Hire your attire
First things first, wedding attire can be expensive, especially if you’re buying. Therefore hiring your attire is a great way to save money, especially if you are looking to hire a dinner suit or a tuxedo. Companies such as Leonard Silver offer suit options for under £90 for hire. Rewear, rent or thrift
If you’re attending multiple weddings, buying a different dress for each event can end up being costly. Luckily shopping has never been easier, whether you’re looking to thrift online on a site such as Vinted, shop secondhand in a local charity shop or rent an online guest dress shop, you’re spoilt for choice.
With charity shops offering a huge array of different colours, styles and lengths, you’re bound to find a perfect piece for the wedding you are attending. Book your accommodation in advance
If you are attending a wedding which is out of town, it is key to look for accommodation early, whether you are staying at a hotel or looking to get an Airbnb, the earlier you seek out accommodation the better.

Couples may have a gift registry, which can often have gifts at different price points, the earlier you get in the more likely you can select from a wider range of gifts, and the couple whose wedding it is may offer lower-priced gift options. Alternatively, if the couple are looking for a big gift, there may be an option to contribute to the gift. This allows you to put in the money you feel comfortable with.
