Recently when watching Sophie Louise on YouTube and noticed in one of her videos she promoted a brand called Skin + Me work alongside pharmacists to create a product with active ingredients, for the best product to match your skin concern. As she spoke about the company in her video, I was interested in finding out more. Especially since acne has been a struggle of mine for as long as I can remember. So what is Skin + Me and does it work?
Introducing Skin + Me
Skin + Me provides a custom skincare routine based on your own skincare goals, which sounds like a dream, after buying so many useless products on the high street. You are asked to fill out a consultation before being prescribed your very own Daily Doser of skincare. Skin + Me is a monthly prescription of a nightly product. What is in the product changes each month, with different strengths. This starts with a lower percentage of the ingredients to avoid side effects occurring.
After reading up about the company myself and viewing some testimonials, I decided to try out the skincare brand. The brand offered a discount code to Sophie’s readers, so I decided to go ahead and try it out for £3.49. The cost of a monthly subscription to Skin + Me is £24.99, therefore is a little more pricey than I’d usually pay for a spot cream, but if it works, I’m all in.
The consultation
I headed on to the Skin + Me website, to fill out the consultation form. Due to the nature of the product, you need to complete a consultation form including makeup-free photos of your skin. Before a prescriber can provide you with a custom product. It is important, to be honest during the consultation as if you are not you may get bad side effects from the cream.
In the consultation you will be asked to highlight your skin goals, I chose to make my pores less visible and also clear my spots including adult acne, whiteheads or blackheads. There are other options such as tackling wrinkles and fine lines, improving skin texture and treating rosacea.
Next, you will be prompted to describe your gender, which is what you identify as and the sex assigned at birth. This is asked due to sex hormones playing a big part in the makeup of your skin. Followed by your date of birth as you need to be 18+.
Following on from this the consultation will show you an image of different areas of your face, where you will need to select the most troubled areas of your skin are. For me, it’s my chin and cheeks. Next, you will be asked about your skin type, how your skin tans and how sensitive your skin is. On the next page, there were some questions about pregnancy, breastfeeding and whether you are trying to conceive, as the products which are provided are not able to be given in those circumstances.
Some other questions in the form include:
- Do you blush easily?
- Are you using any other prescription creams?
- Are you taking any prescription tablets for your skin?
- Do you take regular medications? Then to list them.
Then the question of do you have PCOS, excess facial hair or irregular periods came up, as this is something I suffer with, I wondered if this would impact me being able to get the product. However, I answered yes and was still able to progress.
As the skin is complicated and unique, the way we live our life also can play a big impact, including factors such as diet, how much time you spend outdoors and stress levels. You will also be asked about your current skincare routine and whether you have knowledge of skincare products and what they do.
Before submitting your photos you are asked to rate the appearance of your skin, alongside how it makes you feel.
Once you have done this, you have completed the Skin + Me consultation, and you need to wait for an email from the Pharamast which usually takes around 24 hours.
My Treatment Guide
The next day I heard back from the Pharmacist regarding my product, the first prescriptions and how to use it. Alongside information about the ingredients within the bottle. The products in my treatment include Tretinoin, Clindamycin, Azelaic acid and Niacinamide. You are unable to buy Tretinoin or Clindamycin directly over the counter, therefore Skin + Me due to requiring a prescription for these.
Each active ingredient has its own properties, in short, these are:
- Tretinoin: a retinoid with decades of evidence backing up its effectiveness in treating acne
- Clindamycin: an antibiotic proven to reduce acne-promoting bacteria and inflammation
- Azelaic Acid: normalises skin cells and has antibacterial effects
- Niacinamide: an antioxidant that’s proven to reduce skin oil production and treat acne
With that, I awaited my delivery of Skin + Me.
First impressions
The product only took a day to arrive, in a letterbox sized package, making it easy to get your monthly delivery without needing to be at home. Currently, I’ve only been using this product for a week so I am unable to tell whether or not I’ve noticed a difference as this can take up to 12 weeks to fully happen.
Therefore, I have decided to review this product every month to provide a more in-depth review of Skin + Me and show my results. If you are looking to get your hands on your Skin + Me subscription, you can get this here.
